Subaru WRX STI (Impreza) JDM Model Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Petter Solberg, Juha Kankkunen – The list of World Rally Championship drivers responsible for catapulting Subaru's sporty saloon into cult status is as long and illustrious as the history of the car itself. Even those not familiar with the World Rally successes of this marque are sure to know it from the heyday of Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport and any of a number of racing video games. The Subaru Impreza is, and always will be, nothing short of an icon of motoring. This first generation example of the highly sought-after three-door WRX STI model, comes to us fresh from Japan, where vehicles are meticulously maintaned, cared for and not subjected to the barrage of road salt and grim weather their UK counterparts are forced to endure! As such, the bodywork, chassis and underpinnings are outstandingly clean and worlds away from the rust and corrosion which can be found on equivalent UK or European cars. Externally this example is finished in Royal Silver metallic paint, a colour which appears as a bright silver in the sunlight but more of a champagne colour in lower or half-light settings. The gold, 16" multi-spoke OZ Alloy Wheels are perfectly styled to fit the rallying looks of the car and are wrapped with matching Yokohama IceGuard winter tyres which have been fairly recently fitted. As you would expect, this model features the extended front bumper featuring the large, round fog lamps and indicators which blend into its aerodynamic profile. The famous vented bonnet with cental air scoop and two sets of twin side vents is almost as much of an icon as the rest of the car in itself, and with every entrance which makes a statement, there must be an exit, and in the case of the WRX STI, that exit comes in the form of an extended rear bumper and the WRC Style wing. Internally, a pair of Cloth and Alcantara sports seats grace the front of the cabin, each embroidered with the STI (Subaru Technica International) logo, and the driver sits facing a contoured and leather trimmed Momo sports steering wheel with alloy sports pedals at their feet. This example benefits from the fitment of a Blitz turbo boost gauge and Blitz FATT Turbo Timer which not only offer more accurate reading of boost pressure, but also allows for the turbo to be run-down safely after extended periods of driving on boost. Under the bonnet, a carbon fibre STI Strut brace by Fuji Heavy Industries Aerospace Division gives unparallelled ridgidity to the front end while adding very little by way of weight, this component in itself was only available to the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) and as such is very desireable amongst Impreza owners throughout the rest of the world. A Blitz Blow-off Valve (BOV) has been installed and represents the only apparent engine modification done to the car.

The full Japanese book pack is present and there are a number of entries in the service book from the cars time in its homeland. All in all this is an excellent example of the sought-after and iconic “GC” Subaru Impreza in a three-door body style which was not available in the UK (but for the top-end performance models such as the P1). If you have always yearned for that classic shape WRX STI, you won't be disappointed here
